Dim everything you can
A dimmer is the cheapest luxury upgrade in a home. Fixed bright scenes force one mood. Aim for warm color temperature in living and dining; keep kitchens flexible if you cook and entertain in the same volume.
Stop lighting the floor alone
Downlights pointed only at circulation make spaces look like showrooms after hours. Bounce light off walls, illuminate vertical surfaces, and put a lamp where people actually sit.
